3-6 October 2013, Denver
Deadline: December 1st, 2012
Call for papers: « Germany and its Eastern European Neighbors, » linked panel series for 20th/21st-Century historians, German Studies Association meeting, October 3 – October 6, 2013, in Denver, Colorado.
Since the collapse of Soviet Communism in 1989, a rich historical literature has emerged on Germany’s relationship with Eastern Europe over the twentieth century. In North America and Europe, historians have been engaged in a wide range of questions about German imaginations and practices in the region. Our thinking about German nationalism, violence, colonialism, memory, migration, diaspora, Jewish history — among many other themes — has been enriched by this growing field of twentieth-century German history. Dolores L. Augustine and Michael Meng, the two 20th/21st-Century History program coordinators, request informal proposals for panels, roundtables, or papers that address Germany’s relationship with Eastern Europe.
